Random Media has acquired the US rights to Chicago’s Ave Fenix Pictures award-winning drama-thriller, ‘BLACK RUBY’, starring Zachary Laoutides (Adios Vaya con Dios), Ric Morgan (Chicago P.D), and Krystal E. Heredia. Thefilm will release on-demand and on all digital platforms on March 5, 2019.
Directed by La Raza, ‘BLACK RUBY’, the first feature film shot entirely on the iPhone 7, captures the story of two best friends, Jules and Louis, hustlers and jazz musicians who struggle to create a hit song when a young seductive black-Hispanic escort named Ruby finagles her way into their lives. Ruby turns their friendship upside down distracting Jules from his music and causing Louis to street fight his best friend’s debts away.

The film, which has been an international film festival favorite, has received accolades from prestigious festivals such as the 2018 Los Angeles Film Forum Awards, 2017 London Independent Film Awards and 2017 Rome Film Awards. During its festival run, ‘BLACK RUBY’ picked up nineteen nominations and five wins including; ‘Best Actor’, for ZacharyLaoutides’ Brandoesque performance, ‘Best Feature Film’ and ‘Best Original Dramatic Score’ at the 2018 Los Angeles Film Forum Awards.
